About "Children of Our Alley"
"Children of Gebelawi" is one of the most famous and daring novels by Nobel laureate Naguib Mahfouz . The novel is set in a symbolic alleyway representing the world, and it explores the eternal struggle between good and evil through profound religious and philosophical symbolism. Mahfouz uses the characters of the alleyway to embody different stages of human history, from prophets to modern science, in an attempt to understand human nature and its pursuit of justice and knowledge. The novel sparked widespread controversy upon its publication due to its philosophical and religious symbolism, but it remains one of the greatest works of modern Arabic literature.
